No. If you call 911 with a minor problem, the triage process at the hospital will prioritize your problem as a low priority regardless of whether you arrive by ambulance or private transportation. Also, for a minor problem you may be able to be seen more rapidly at a walk-in clinic or urgent-care facility. Your family doctor is the most important person to discuss less-than-urgent matters with, and he or she can often speed the processes up if there is a genuine reason to do so.

Please pull to the right and stop. It is not enough to simply pull to the right of the road and keep driving, as it is unsafe for us to pass you while you are still moving, especially if the road is only one lane in each direction.

The fire department is sent to all motor vehicle accidents as well as medical calls when additional personnel may be needed to assist the ambulance.

Police officers often respond to assist with scene safety or to assist if additional manpower is needed.

About Wells EMS

Wells EMS was founded in 1990 when the contracted private ambulance service informed the Town of Wells that they were discontinuing their service. As members of the community were informed of the news, members of the community formed a committee that went to the town for assistance in starting a non-profit service emergency 911 service that is contracted to the Town of Wells for emergency medical service needs.

Currently Wells EMS is governed by a Board of Directors who are volunteers, and the operations are managed by a team of members. The administration team consists of a full-time Director of EMS/Paramedic and 3 per diem Assistant Directors of EMS/Paramedics that are scheduled for 24 hours a week covering shifts and being an administrator on call every 4 weeks.

Wells EMS has 3 ambulances that are equipped at the paramedic level and a 4th ambulance that is a spare ambulance but can be put in service in a quick amount of time. We also have a car that we can use for responding to calls in town or assisting our neighboring healthcare services.

Wells EMS providers have a vast knowledge, background and experience coming from other services while we all strive to have the best training that can be provided in our area.

Board of Directors

Wells EMS is governed by a group of 7 dedicated volunteers that are appointed to the Wells EMS Board of Directors by the Town of Wells Selectboard to oversee the business affairs of the corporation.
